Your Brain is Connected to the Creation by Matter

Creation, as we perceive it with our five senses, is matter occupying space since the beginning of time. The senses of sight, hearing and smell are thought of as non contact senses whereas taste and
touch are perceived as requiring direct contact with matter. In reality, all five of your senses require direct contact with matter. Within each of your senses are receptors sensitive to specific characteristics of matter.

Your five senses are each designed to interact with specific characteristics of matter to produce data for your brain to process into information. Information, lots of it, is the food of reason and reasoning yields conclusions and conclusions spawn ideas. Learning how your five senses function will clarify the nature of what you are sensing.

Sight - Light is focused through the lens of your eye upon the retina (rear inner surface of your eye) which is covered with rods (grey scale receptors) and cones (color receptors). These receptors transfer the data (collective image) to the brain via the optical nerve.

Hearing - At the inner end of your ear canal is a diaphragm (ear drum) which is sensitive to mechanical vibrations in the atmosphere. The inner ear converts these vibrations into data and the auditory nerve transfers this data to the brain.

Smell - The atmosphere is full of tiny particles of matter. You breath in through your nostrils these small pieces of matter, although too small for us to see, the nose is sensitive to them as they travel through your nose. When the small particles of matter "tickle" the nerve endings of the olfactory nerve, the nerve transfers this interaction or data to the brain.

Taste - The tongue is covered with clusters of receptors referred to as taste buds. There are four unique receptors each of which recognize different characteristics of matter, sweet, sour, bitter and salty. The tip of your tongue contains mostly sweet receptors, the back of your tongue responds to bitter, the sides of your tongue recognize sour and the salty receptors are mixed with the other receptors over the entire surface of your tongue.

Saliva plays an important role in dissolving some matter to provide a good interface with your taste buds. Response of the taste buds produces data that is then transferred to the brain via the afferent nerves. The brain requires data from both smell and taste to identify the taste of matter. Enlarge

Touch - All the information we receive by our sense of sight and by our sense of hearing comes to our brain through nerve endings. It is the same with our skin. The epidermis, or the top layer of your skin, contains many, many nerve endings all over your body. These nerve endings send data to your brain as data about the matter that you are in "touch " with.

These five senses connect all humans with the creation, including your own flesh. The raw data provided by your five senses must be processed to become information. God created us in His image and we bear that in mind as we observe our interaction with creation.

So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Gen 1:27. AMP

Humans have a brain that follows their heart. Don't be too quick to assume that the word heart does not mean the "heart". Modern science has discovered that there is more to the human heart than just being a blood pump. It is worthwhile to give warning about some conclusions that scientist have made regarding the "heart" and its' collaboration with the brain. The idea of coherence is solid if, and only if, while you are reading about it you are thinking about the spirit of life that God breathed into us and the spirit of life as the device that coheres all of the individual systems of your body. The authors of these theories recognize that there is a force at work in humans between their heart and brain, but they do not attribute it to God the Creator. This is an area of science that is very dangerous if not studied in the context of God's Holy Inspired Scriptures.

O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. Matt 12:34-35 KJV
Gen 1:27. AMP

The brain, driven by the desires of our heart, processes data from sources internal (ideas and conclusions from previous experience stored in our memory) and external (fresh from our five senses) to arrive at a conclusion. Computers have a processor that follows sequential instructions (the computer program). The processor, by way of these instructions processes data from sources internal and external to arrive at the final product which is information.

I purposefully differentiated between information as a result from the computer and conclusions as a result from the human brain. Computers always do what is next in the programmed sequence, they draw no conclusions and never adjust their direction or purpose. Humans are continually deciding what to do next based upon their last conclusion. Humans can reason, a computer has yet to be built that can reason and draw conclusions outside of the original subject. There are technologies such as artificial intelligence and neural nets that can learn, but learning and reasoning are totally dissimilar processes.

A child's five senses would provide roughly the identical data to their brain as that of a mature adult. But without prior experience to process with the raw data, little or no conclusions are reached. That is the role of parents, providing the child with the adults experience by way of the child's five senses, mostly by sight and hearing. As information is accumulated by the child, it begins to reason. No learning, no reasoning.

Animals learn and pass some skills on to their young. Animals can be trained by a human to learn beyond their natural limits. These induced behaviors are not the process of reasoning. Animals have no ability to reason like humans. This is one of the traits that separate animals and humans and leads us to the sixth element in our world that some access and some refuse to recognize that it even exist. That is, the spiritual realm.

1 Cor 2:16 16 For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart.
1 John 2:20. AMP

20 But you have been anointed by [you hold a sacred appointment from, you have been given an unction from] the Holy One, and you all know [the Truth] or you know all things. AMP

Rather than explaining these scriptures away, ponder for a moment on the literal meaning. If the plain sense makes sense, seek no other sense. We as believers have the mind of Christ and we know all things. This is unbelievable unless like all of scripture, you believe God's word by faith. All life is driven by the spirit and humans have a spirit in the image of the creator. Believers are reborn spiritually and have the spirit of Christ.

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom 8:9. KJV

Not availing yourself of this connection with the spiritual realm by way of the mind and spirit of Christ greatly limits your ability to reason and draw accurate conclusions about anything and everything including the truth about a rainbow. If you don't accept the Biblical account of the great flood in the time of Noah, then you cannot "see" why this had to happen for there to be the first rainbow. Hint! Direct sunlight on the surface of the earth did not exist prior to the flood. There was no direct light to refract through the droplets of water suspended in the sky to produce that first rainbow until after the water above fell to the earth and the sky cleared. This is only one example of the influence God's word has on how you see the physical creation.

The nature of our five senses is extensive enough to warrant separate articles expanding upon each separately. Not to leave it unsaid, all matter interacts; images, sounds, odors, flavors and sensations all come to your senses through matter and interaction with matter. Although I have used the terms space and matter, I will in the future refer to all matter as energy and argue that there is only energy and time, all of creation is energy (the power of God) and time.

The first principle is that you must not fool yourself - and you are the easiest person to fool.
Richard Feynman, Caltech commencement address, 1974
US educator & physicist (1918 - 1988)
In the book of Psalms, David recognizes that he is easily fooled and ask for God's wisdom. Who can discern his lapses and errors? Clear me from hidden [and unconscious] faults.
Ps 19:12 AMP
